Work With Us
Justice, accountability and good governance are rarely advanced by one discipline alone. They need lawyers and diplomats, investigators and storytellers, policy minds and people who have seen first-hand what is at stake.
Oxford Matrix brings these perspectives together. We work on some of the most sensitive and consequential matters in international law, human rights and governance, and we are always looking for people who can help us do that work better.
What we look for
We value expertise, but we value character and perspective just as much. The people we work with tend to share a few qualities:
Integrity and discretion
Our clients trust us with sensitive matters, and that trust must be earned and kept.
Intellectual rigour
Clear thinking, careful analysis and the courage to give honest advice.
Curiosity across boundaries
An interest in how law, politics, people and institutions interact.
Commitment to a fairer world
A genuine belief that justice and accountability matter.
Life experience counts
Some of the most valuable insight comes from outside any profession. We particularly welcome people with substantial volunteering, community, humanitarian or other experience, in any field. It does not need to relate to our areas of practice.
Time spent in a refugee camp, a community project, a classroom, a hospital or a family business can teach judgement and empathy that no qualification can. We look at the whole person, not just the CV.
Current Opportunities
From time to time we recruit for specific roles. Each vacancy is advertised below with a full description of the role, the experience we are looking for and how to apply. All vacancies are advertised on our website and shared on our X account and LinkedIn page.
No current vacancy matching your profile? You may still be a good fit for our Expert Panel or our mentoring programme, described below.
Join Our Expert Panel
Our work depends on the depth and breadth of the people we can call on. Alongside our core team, we are building a panel of experts and associates who share our values and want to be part of our work. We are looking for:
- A practitioner in law, diplomacy, policy, investigation, forensics, communications or another relevant field
- An academic or researcher with specialist knowledge
- Someone with deep knowledge of a particular country, region, language or community
- A professional whose skills could help us expand into new areas of practice
How to express interest:
Send your CV with a covering letter setting out your expertise and background, its relevance to us, and future potential areas of growth.
Internships
Our internships offer a rare view of how strategic advice is shaped and delivered in complex, high-stakes environments. Interns work alongside our team on live research, analysis and project support.
We welcome applications from students, recent graduates and career changers. We are interested in what you have done with your time, inside and outside education, as much as in your grades. All our internships are paid and are open to applicants aged 18 and over.
Mentoring: Developing Future Expertise
The challenges we work on will outlast any one generation. We are open to mentoring individuals with potential who are drawn to international law, human rights, governance, diplomacy or the environment. Mentoring may include guidance on:
- Choosing academic subjects and courses of study
- Building a focused portfolio of expertise and experience
- Finding meaningful volunteering, research and work opportunities
- Navigating career paths in the sectors we work in
How to apply for mentoring:
Send your CV with a covering letter telling us about your aims, interests, life beyond study/work, and why mentoring now would make a difference to you.
Equal Opportunities & Diversity
The matters we work on cross borders, cultures and languages, and so must the people who work on them. Diversity is not a box we tick. It is central to the quality of our advice. We particularly value multilingualism, multicultural understanding, and diverse life paths.
Oxford Matrix is an equal opportunities organisation. We welcome applications from everyone and make decisions on merit, regardless of background.
